Fan-filmed video of TESTAMENT guitarist Alex Skolnick performing the song “Atman” with RODRIGO Y GABRIELA — the dynamic Mexican duo who became international world-music superstars with their self-titled album of aggressive acoustic guitars and irresistible Latin rhythms — on March 21, 2010 at The Ritz in Ybor City, Florida can be viewed in two parts below.

Skolnick’s experimental band ALEX SKOLNICK TRIO is the support act for RODRIGO Y GABRIELA on their current U.S. tour.

RODRIGO Y GABRIELA released their new studio CD, entitled “11:11”, in September through ATO Records. The album was recorded in Ixtapa, Mexico and was produced by RODRIGO Y GABRIELA, with John Leckie co-producing two of the tracks. The effort was mixed in Wales and London by Colin Richardson, best known for his work with SLIPKNOT and TRIVIUM.

Comprising 11 new original compositions, “11:11” is the band’s personal “Gracias” to 11 musicians, both past and present, who have inspired them along the way. One of the tracks, “Atman”, features a guest appearance by Skolnick and is dedicated to late PANTERA/DAMAGEPLAN guitarist “Dimebag” Darrell Abbott.

Speaking of their collaboration with Skolnick and the legacy of “Dimebag” Darrell, Rodrigo Sanchez and Gabriela Quintero stated, “Alex came to our studio in Mexico to lay down his incredible solo on ‘Atman’. Atman is a Sanskrit word meaning the only deathless part of the human being. This song is for ‘Dimebag’ Darrell — metal guitar god and former member of PANTERA. Dimebag was shot dead on stage while performing with his last band, DAMAGEPLAN, at a venue in Columbus, Ohio in 2004. He influenced and inspired a whole new generation of guitarists around the world — his legacy is as endless as his memory is within us.”

Natives of Mexico City, Rodrigo Sanchez and Gabriela Quintero began their careers as members of TIERRA ACIDA, a heavy metal band which played on the city’s underground gig circuit for seven years.

“Like a lot of Mexican youth, we were heavily influenced by American metal bands — METALLICA, MEGADETH, PANTERA, and also SEPULTURA,” Gabriela explained. “It was a full band, very loud, and for vocals, Rodrigo would just scream. We played this way for seven years.”

..Florida’s INFERNAEON have completed writing their upcoming album for Prosthetic Records and are entering Safe House Production studios to work with legendary guitarist James Murphy (TESTAMENT, OBITUARY, DEATH), who is working with the band from pre-production through mastering. INFERNAEON’s last release, “A Symphony of Suffering” was released in March of 2007, also on Prosthetic.
The band is also proud to announce the addition of guitarists Taylor Nordberg and Steven Harger and bassist Mike Poggione. Frontman Brian Werner had this to say about the new members:

“It is a real breath of fresh air getting these three in the band. Taylor and Steve are both young, 18 and 19, and hungry and their talent and work ethic are second to none. We’ve accomplished more in three months than I’d ever been able to accomplish in a year before! I spent time with Mike Poggione in Monstrosity and he’s really helping us out in our bass player’s absence. Also our drummer Jeramie Kling (The Absence) has really stepped up his game, and in my opinion he could be the next Derek Roddy or Tim Yeung. He has really come into his own as a drummer and it’s an honor to still be working with him. The end result is an absolutely amazing sounding album one that I’m proud to be a part of.”
The band has posted a behind the scenes look at some of the insanity which went on during the writing process of the album at Werner’s, home on a 30 acre compound in central Florida, where anything goes. Named the “Wildest House in America” by both Playboy Magazine and Girls Gone Wild, the band has a reputation for getting out of control, to say the least. Check out the video,
