After a few months in his home studio in Armstrong, BC, Chris Shaver
has produced the debut full-length VHOD album, ‘Dreamcleaver’. Chris
mans the helm alone, performing all the instruments and vocals and
this album showcases snippets of unused material spanning many years
as well asbrand new material. The release is a fair representation of
VHOD’s experimental death metal angle and will cement a milestone for
Chris in his quarter-of-a-century musical journey thus far.

VHOD was conceived in January 2014 and is a merger of Godcursed
(2004-2014), Morbid Darkness (1989-2014) and Worms Of The Birth
(2011-2014), which were all active projects of sole member Chris
Shaver at the time. Early VHOD releases exhibited sporadic styles and
were mostly instrumental pieces used as a basis for finding a more
focussed signature sound. Said releases consist of 3 singles, ‘The
Scornful Winter’, ‘One Fallen’ & ‘Cimmeria’ and an EP, ‘Dreams Of
11.14′, respectively, all released independently. In December of
2014, work began on the ‘Tor’ Series, which consists of 4 parts:
‘Behind The Shroud Of Mist’, ‘Wrap Three Times’, ‘Portal’ and ‘The
Desolates’, respectively. In these independent releases an evident
foundation was made with which future VHOD recordings will branch out
from. Dreamcleaver is set for release November 13th 2015 on Finnish

Fresh off a sold out Soundwave Festival and Australian tour, hard rock heroes RED FANG have announced a six week long European summer tour including numerous festival appearances.  The tour kicks off May 31st at Spain’s Sonisphere Festival and includes special appearances at Hellfest, Graspop and previously uncharted territories.  A complete listing of dates is listed below.

This marks the third time the band has set foot across the pond since the release of 2011’s critically acclaimed Murder The Mountains.  Drummer John Sherman commented on the upcoming run:
“We are super excited to get back to Europe this summer and hit some places we’ve always wanted to play, but for one reason or another were not able to – Ireland, Turkey, Iceland, and finally Poland!  And to be a part of some of the bigger festivals with huge names like Iron Maiden is just mind blowing.  It’s gonna be a hectic, busy, sleepless, kickass 6 week party!”

RED FANG recently blessed the world with a new video for their infectious song “Dirt Wizard.” The video , another collaboration with Whitey McConnaughy, chronicles the foursome as they tour throughout Europe. Additionally, the band recently released a new single,  “Crows in Swine”, which saw its official release as a split 7″ with label-mates ASG via Relapse Records. The 7″ is available for purchase here.

RED FANG have begun writing their highly anticipated follow-up to 2011’s Murder The Mountains and plan to enter the studio in the near future.  Details will be announced shortly.

Relapse Records this week officially welcomes Richmond, Virginia’s masters of ethereal doom metal, Windhand, to the label’s roster, having signed the quintet for the release of their forthcoming LP.
Stated the members of Windhand in response to their joining forces with the Relapse horde, “We’re all so honored to be in the company of so many amazing artists. To know that our next record will be alongside some of the albums that inspired us to play music is pretty incredible.”
Windhand has begun laying down tracks for the to-be-named upcoming LP in their home studio, The Darkroom, where the outfit will record and mix the entire album, and deliver it to Relapse for a Fall 2013 release date. More details will be made available as the album nears release.
Having formed in 2008 in the fertile Richmond, Virginia musical underground, Windhand’s incredible, organic style of low-end doom and trancelike occult/ethereal vocals helped the band catch immediate attention well beyond the region, drawing comparisons to everything from Electric Wizard and Pallbearer to The Devil’s Blood and Blood Ceremony. Continuous live shows and US tours have seen them share the stage with notable acts including Pallbearer, Tragedy, Balaclava, Iron Tongue, Bastard Sapling, Pilgrim, Elder, Pentagram, Sourvein, The Gates of Slumber, Graveyard, Thrones, Mares of Thrace, Coffinworm, Across Tundras, Primitive Weapons among countless others.
In the meantime, Reflection Of The Negative, a split album with Windhand and local scene brethren and now labelmates Cough, will see release via Relapse in mid-April. Cough leads off, delivering a characteristically electrifying down-tuned epic track, while their brethren in Windhand serve up two brand new epic songs for their half of the dirge, in the end bearing nearly forty minutes music from two prime acts in the contemporary doom/sludge circuit. An album trailer and preorders for the split LP are available

Massachusetts metallers Revocation are currently in the studio working on the follow up to their critically acclaimed 2011 Relapse Records release Chaos of Forms. This is the first full length album with bass player Brett Bamberger who joined the band in 2012 and was featured on the band’s last EP Teratogenesis which was released by Scion AV.

Frontman Dave Davidson commented on the recording progress:
“Today is the last day of tracking, just gotta finish up some vocals and then it’ll ready for the mixing stage. We’re all incredibly pleased with how this one turned out, it’s going to be a very pissed off record but will also have some twists and turns to spice things up. We feel like this is some of our best playing laid down to date, can’t wait for everyone to check out the new tunes!”

The band has teamed up with Loudwire to present an exclusive post European video tour diary. Check out what happens when these guys hit Europe with Dying Fetus here.

Frontman Dave Davidson tried to recall the video diary…
“What’s up guys? We’ve just posted a video from our most recent Euro tour with Dying Fetus, JFAC and Cerebral Bore. We had a blast on that run, sadly I don’t remember most of it because of rampant alcohol consumption but this tour diary is bringing back fond memories. Check that shit out!

The band will take a quick break from working on their new album this Spring when they hit the road with Goatwhore, 3 Inches of Blood, and Ramming Speed. Revocation joins the tour in Bucksport, ME on April 28th and will play six shows winding things down in Toronto on May 3rd. A complete list of dates is below.

Finnish metal superstars CHILDREN OF BODOM have named their 8th studio album “Halo Of Blood” and have unveiled the album artwork.
Coverart was created this time by Sami Saramäki (Follow The Reaper, Are You Dead Yet?, Hate Crew Deathroll).

Mastermind Alexi Laiho commented:
“Halo Of Blood is the 8th studio album from Children Of Bodom and believe it or not but we still managed to keep it fresh
and new while still maintaining the elements that make COB sound recognizable. Its got the fastest and the slowest song
we ever made and lyrics wise there are themes we had never had before. Its 10 new songs of pure nordic metal and wether
you enjoy it with a beer or a glass of water, I’m sure you will have a good time.”

Bass player Henkka Seppälä states about the artwork:
“We wanted to have a winter scene. Somehow it fits Well with the atmosphere of the music and the composing session.
It could be lake bodom actually, frozen, with people trapped under the ice. Very Finnish looking scene.
We were really happy how Sami created the whole imagery!”
The “Halo Of Blood” track listing:
01. Waste Of Skin
02. Halo Of Blood
03. Scream For Silence

07. Dead Man’s Hand On You

After signing with Relapse Records in late 2011, this week Auckland, New Zealand-based death metal horde Ulcerate will enter hometown MCA Studios to harness their anticipated fourth LP.

Ulcerate’s founding drummer Jamie Saint Merat states, “After almost exactly twelve months of exhaustive work we are now in the final stages of preparation for our fourth album. This week we enter the studio to track what has become a violent, monolithic piece of work.”

The yet-to-be-named fourth opus from Ulcerate follows two albums on Willowtip Records — 2009’s Everything Is Fire and 2011’s critically-lauded The Destroyers Of All — not to mention their 2007 Neurotic Records debut Of Fracture And Failure. The band down wave after tumultuous wave of dissonant riffing and a nonstop barrage of leveling, technical percussion with organic brute force and otherworldly discordance, topped with a purely disdainful, guttural lyrical attack. Their brutally-charged, sinister death metal bears an innovative, blackened edge resulting in a catastrophic concoction not dissimilar to Mitochondrion, Mithras, Portal, Glorior Belli and Deathspell Omega.

Ulcerate has toured with extreme metal heavyweights across all of New Zealand, Australia and heavily across Europe alongside the likes of Nile, Krisiun, Decapitated, Behemoth, Cannibal Corpse, Deicide, Grave, Corpus Mortale, Svart Crown and others, and even assaulted North American audiences for the first time with several shows around and including 2012’s annual installment of the massive Maryland Deathfest.

Expect updates through all of 2013 as Ulcerate completes their latest work and allows it to erupt forth onto humanity later this year, in addition to taking their sonic destruction to the stage in support. New Zealanders can catch the band in Auckland and Wellington with labelmates Rotten Sound this April.
