Former NIGHTWISH singer Tarja Turunen performed the song “The Good Die Young” with German hard rock veterans SCORPIONS last night (Saturday, March 27) on Germany’s talk show “Wetten, Dass..?”. The program also featured an interview with Tarja and SCORPIONS members Rudolf Schenker and Klaus Meine. Watch the clips below.

“The Good Die Young” appears on SCORPIONS’ final studio album, “Sting In The Tail”, which was released in North America on March 23 via Universal Music Enterprises. The CD was recorded at a studio in Hannover, Germany with Swedish producers Mikael “Nord” Andersson and Martin Hansen (the team behind THE RASMUS’ “Dead Letters” CD).

“The Good Die Young” was written “about people who stand up for peace and freedom,” according to Klaus Meine. “In a world that gets out of balance more and more every day, we try to put this feeling into music,” he said.

SCORPIONS — known worldwide for their mega, arena hard rock and over 100 million records sold — will travel the globe one last time on the “Get Your Sting And Blackout” tour. Kicking off the North American leg in June, the tour will take the band across the U.S. all summer and continue on around the world with special guests supporting along the way. Dates will be announced soon.

MEGADETH Mainman Reveals New Songtitle

MEGADETH mainman Dave Mustaine was interviewed by Jose Mangin, program director for Sirius XM, on March 18, 2010 in Scranton, Pennsylvania. During chat, Mustaine spoke about a recently recorded MEGADETH song which will be used in an as-yet-undisclosed project later this year. “That was a top-secret track that we haven’t been able to announce where it’s getting directed to,” he said. “It’s a song called ‘Sudden Death’, and appropriately so. And it’s a pretty long song — it’s not our usual three-to-four-minute length; it’s more along the lines of… I think it’s about five minutes long.

He continued, “We were approached to do a track for a specific purpose and we delivered it, and they said, ‘Can you do more solos?’ And I thought, ‘Pfft, are you kidding?’ That’s like asking a guy, ‘Do you wanna have some more sex?’ So I went back in there and I went, ‘Solo, solo, solo.’ And I called Chris [Broderick, MEGADETH guitarist] back, and I said, ‘C’mon back down here. Let’s have some more fun.’ And all you could hear was engines revving and brakes screeching out in front of the studio when he got there. You know, that’s what we live for — is playing now.”
MEGADETH kicked off its “Rust In Peace 20th Anniversary Tour” on March 1 at the Knitting Factory in Spokane, Washington. Also appearing on the bill are TESTAMENT and EXODUS.

MEGADETH recently finished filming a video for the song “The Right To Go Insane” in South El Monte, California. According to bassist David Ellefson, the clip “has a very twisted and demented storyline. It was much different than what I thought it would be. It has no band footage at all. It’s a very twisted and intriguing story.”

“The Right To Go Insane” comes off MEGADETH’s latest album, “Endgame”, which was recorded at Vic’s Garage, the band’s brand new, self-built studio in San Marcos, California. The CD was helmed by Mustaine and British producer Andy Sneap (EXODUS, NEVERMORE, ARCH ENEMY, MACHINE HEAD).

Finnish heavy metal musician Jarkko Ahola (TERÄSBETONI, NORTHERN KINGS) will record a heavy-meets-jazz album with OULU ALL STAR BIG BAND, which organizes performances in cooperation with guest stars and conductors. According to Ahola, “The tracks will be the same we did in the gigs before, including jazzy and occasionally pompous big-band versions of ‘The Show Must Go On’, ‘Heart Of Steel’, ‘Burn’, ‘Vaadimme Metallia’ etc.”

He adds, “I feel curious about this. How they will sound on CD? It remains to be heard!”

The idea to make big-band versions of heavy metal and hard rock classics came from OULU ALL STAR BIG BAND and its artistic director, Tapio Maunuvaara. After inviting Ahola to take part in the project, they then selected a set of melodic songs and OULU ALL STAR BIG BAND hired various people to make the new arrangements of the songs for the big band.

The “Big Band Goes Heavy” repertoire has so far been performed live twice — on November 7, 2009 in Oulu, Finland; and on March 13, 2010 at the Oulu Music Festival.
